The Paris 2024 Olympic Games is less than a year away, and B-Boys and B-Girls from all over the world have been traveling around the world for more than a year to compete and earn Olympic points. The DSAHKC is honored to be sanctioned by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) to host the last Olympic Qualification Ranking competition, “WDSF Breaking for Gold World Series - Hong Kong 2023” (BfG), which is the highest level of BfG. About 200 athletes from 50 countries or regions are expected to compete in Hong Kong.
The BfG is proud of being an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolizing intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar.
Mr YIP Chi-wai, President of the DSAHKC, said it was a good start for Hong Kong danceSport to make a strong comeback with BfG becoming an "M" Mark event after the pandemic. “Over the years, our events have been awarded the 'M' Mark by the MSEC and it is a precious opportunity for breaking to continue the 'M' Mark tradition this year. It is exciting that there will B-Boys and B-Girls from about 50 countries or regions competing for the championship; what’s more, we will be transforming the arena to a grand stage in a new and refreshingway, so that this breaking event, catching the world’s eye, will leave an unforgettable impression on both the contestants and the audience." He said.
Mr Yip further expressed that the competition will be held over two days, the first day of the competition (15 December) will kick off with the pre-selection of the top 64 and 32; the opening ceremony will be held on the following day (16 December), with two event ambassadors, the talented artistes Ms Grace Wong and Mr Jack Hui, making an appearance. Mr Yip added, "We hope that this breaking Olympic Qualification Ranking competition in December will arouse public awareness of the importance of breaking in sports. This year is merely a new beginning and we hope to continue the tradition year after year, and in the future, the competition might be held in the larger Kai Tak Sports Park, rather than in the stadium.”
The BfG is one of the pathways to the Olympic stage in Paris. The top ranked athletes in the BfG will be included in the Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) to be held from March to June next year, and the WDSF will finalize the Olympic Qualification Ranking after the Hong Kong leg to determine the qualifying athletes for the OQS.
